between the lines

Cassie is a mixed-race slave girl in Williamsburg, Virginia who escapes to the protection of the British in 1780 during the War for American Independence. The British offered freedom to slaves only to cast them out between the battle lines during the last great battle of the American Revolution.  Cassie is caught not only between the battle lines, but between the racial lines of her day. Even though she looked white, and passed for white she was a slave. At this time if a person had any Negro blood he or she was considered to be a non-white. Cassie must survive by her wits after she escapes the devastation of the battlefield.

My publisher thinks this is my best book. One reader has agreed although she commented that she had liked all my books!!!–a-revolutionary-war-slaves-journey-to-freedom
